Ceremonial Staircase

The most visible expression of the grandeur of Governor’s House is a winding double staircase leading up to Gol Kamra from Palladian portico. Built after the First War of Independence (1857) it symbolized the need for the British Empire to reassert itself on the populace. The addition of the portico, the grand staircase and the extended drawing room with it vast semi-circular west end referred to as the Gol Kamra, were completed at this juncture.
